Hunching to School~
I realize nowadays a child's school bag is very heavy..
I can't imagine little ones carrying such a burden to school everyday.
I've weighed Joe's school bag today.. it's approximately 10kg..
and he's only in Year One..
He weighs at 20kg.. he's already carrying half of his body weight..
And I think he's starting to hunch and I'm worry about that.
10kg for an adult is okay.. walking up the flight of stairs with 10kg on
your back is also quite challenging already.
It's not because they bring all their books to school..
But given the timetable, they have at least 4-5 subjects a day...
Each subject have a minimum of 2 books.. a textbook and a workbook..
So (4 x 2 = 8 books); sometimes 10 books.. and I haven't even add the exercise books yet!
*What about the water bottle, lunch box, pencil case, color pencils, etc?
I don't think the school bag can hold the books for long..
It's quite heart-wrenching to see them walk up the stairs with their heavy backpacks behind them as the weight are pulling them down. They could fall anytime with just a slight push.
Quite a number of parents do carry the backpacks up to their child's classroom to avoid such incident. A lot of parents did complain but the school ain't doing nothing bout' it which is SAD~
When I pick my son after school, I see little kids carrying their bags which are way bigger than themselves. It's even scarier to see them wobbling down the stairs from the 3rd floor.
Some do fall and slide a few steps down..
Even those who have bags with wheels are struggling to bring their bags down the stairs.. They just drag their bag and you can hear the sound, 'duk duk duk duk' from afar. Wheels or no wheels they still prefer to drag it up and down.
-Sometimes I do worry that accidents might happen.. and if it does it'll be called "The ChildBag Landslide"

Express Teachings
Joe just had his mid-term. His Science and Maths paper questions were quite tough for a Year One..
I was scanning through the questions with my sister and we thought that the questions given were similar to the ones we had when we were in Year Four.
My sis' was like..
"We learnt this in Year Four, how would little kids know about this kinda stuff?"
Have the standard really went up that high or it's just cliche'?We were only introduced to the above at Year Four.. not Year One... Joe must have been so lost~
You know? He could be right after all.. the <(> could mean anything.. it could be a +/-/x/etc.
Well, after seeing those hardy questions, no wonder Joe didn't handle the paper well..
He didn't get an A and it wasn't a C... it's in between... can't ask for more.. cause I know he has done his best.
He was disappointed in himself too.. I can tell
If they're fast-forwarding the teachings of Science, then I wonder when the ministry of education will be introducing them 'Sex Education'... in Year Six when they're twelve?
Just got back Joe's English Language paper.. and he scored an A for it... SALUTE~
But, check this out ...He got a 'TICK' for a mistake..
Now I'm waiting for his Bahasa Melayu paper... GOSH~ I know how much he avoid that subject...

X-BOX Goes to School
Check this out!!
GAMING goes educational...in form of books now~
I got this revision book for my girl, just for the school holidays to keep her busy..
Well at least to keep her mind in power mode..
Then she came up to me.. shove the book at my face and asked...
"Mummy, is this X-BOX?"
I looked at it.. and told her, "It is!"
Wow it really caught my eye.. might catch yours too.. really interesting that they're incorporating gaming consoles as part of the fill-in-the-blanks questions. But the book is for 4-6 year olds..>MY-MY
Will it come up in assestment/tests too? I better make my kids memorize the different consoles there are in the market from today onwards.. Have to teach them to differentiate between a normal CPU and a MAC!!
The thing is the drawing really represents an X-BOX.. so clear..
But you can't blame a kid naming it A-BOX or T-BOX or Z-BOX... can you?
How would those kids who haven't meet the X-BOX yet know?
They wouldn't know the difference...
It could be a B-BOX @ Boom Box... for them.. haha
