Transformers Day

Sunday was Transformers Day for us. Joe had already scheduled his mind for this very special day. He marked this date weeks and maybe months ago better than he marked his exams. I even got my boys to wear their Transformers tee.

Anyway, Hubby got the tickets online so we don't have to beat the queue. My sis, Elaine joined us on our T-Day. Hub got the seats 2-by-2. So, Joe sat with my sis; Hub looked after the girl while I got Javier stuck to me. Little one wasn't feeling well but he insisted that he wanted to watch Transformers. So, be it.

We left home early to Pavilion because of the KL Marathon that was happening all over KL. We were afraid of road closures, traffic congestion and worse, human traffics at GSC. Haha!

Indeed there were minor jams. Lucky us! We arrived 2 hours earlier than our movie so we decided to lunch at Dragon-I.

Movie Time

Hmm I think the movie was great. A lot of people didn't think it was up to par but different people have different reviews. Maybe some thought that several takes weren't necessarily or maybe there's too much emos going on between characters. A number of watchers love sticking to action scenes.

Dinner Time

My grandparents just arrived from KT so they all came over for dinner at Silk Road. Uncle Yan was also around to savour the tantalizing food. Silk Road serves Sichuan dishes so mostly are a little on the spicy side but nevertheless worth the try and money.

Grans

Feeling better after the movie

Dad and Mom

Uncle Yan is single and available today...

.. at least to Joe anyway who bugged him with tonnes of questions

Edmund getting drunk with tea

Judith, 'The Little Mohican'

Erm... 'Jie' what are you trying to reach? Check out Uncle Yan's facial expression. LOL!

ME very 'the hungry'

Glorious Food
(smaller pics are from sis' Facebook)

'Eight Treasure Tea' (RM5)
-which consists of tea leaves, red dates, almonds, walnuts, wolf berries, dried tangerine, longans and dried raisins + probably water to make it wholly

'Sliced Pork on Bamboo Rack' (RM15)
-pork belly, thinly sliced and rolled up doused in sweet and spicy sauce

'Deep Fried Eggplant with Pork Floss' (RM9)
-Hub called this for the kids.. Joe loved it and he didn't know it was vege!!

'Braised Eggplant with Pork Floss' (RM20)
-this dish are for the adults. a little on the spicy side

'Stir-fried Pork with Sweet and Sour Sauce' (RM16)
-this dish actually goes with 'man-tau'

'Beancurd with Mushroom and Seafood' (RM30)
-so good.. it's everything in one

'Pan-fried Cod with Sichuan Spicy Sauce' (RM48.80)
-one of the signature dishes

'Chilled Mango with Sago' (RM10)

'Chilled Lemongrass Jelly' (RM9)
-which contains a bit of barley, pomegranate and bits of strawberries.

'Sichuan Pancake with Ice Cream' (RM9)
-which I eventually switched with Hubby's Chilled Lemongrass Jelly

This was our 3rd time dining at Silk Road. We ordered some of the previous dishes that we loved and some new ones to try. Overall, it was a yummy experience. We're sure to return to Silk Road again in the future.

Another Saturday + Madam Joo

It's another Saturday and on Saturdays, we have breakfast at OLD TOWN Kopitiam. Joe will order his usual...

OLD TOWN Nasi Lemak Special

while Jake and I switch back and forth occasionally between these 2 dishes:

OLD TOWN Nasi Lemak Rendang

Kaya & Butter Toast

and the 2 little ones lately craved for OLD TOWN Ipoh Chicken Hor Fun

and for beverages, we always order White Milk Tea (a hot one for Joe and 3 iced ones to share between the remaining 4).

After breakfast, we went to Joe's Report Card Day. He got 13th in class which was great. We are really proud of him. He had since jumped 2 classes before he got into the Bestari which is the 2nd class.

Now.. we are thinking. What to award him for his hardwork?

We went to visit Madam Joo (Jake's grandma) in a nursing home in PJ. She was placed there so she can get the upmost attention and care in necessary daily needs with 24-hour nursing care by qualified nurses. Jake and I calls her POPO while the kids calls her PO-TAI instead of the usual TAI-PO; so they won't get mixed up with my granny. POPO look really well staying there with a roommate to look out for her. Her roomie is really friendly and even gave the kids some sweets which was pretty sour I think because when we left, they quickly spat it out.

Erm.. as usual Javier is all to himself.. doesn't want to get his picture taken with his great-grandmother.
But, he had a changed of heart later on before we said goodbye.
Aww.. the cutest pic taken of the day!!

This was the kids' first time visit to the nursing home but they took it very maturely. Joe and Judith did ask whisperly why are there so many old people here. Why they need caring. Why they are staying here. We gave them some answers in return which made them understood a little (I hoped). They were also behaving well. Jake even took them along to see the rest of the home, the other elders, the facilities and also the compound. It's a nice place not the kind where people always first predict as old and gloomy and probably yucky. Hey! This nursing home was bursting with folks walking around and saying HI! How adorable!!! Even the kids enjoyed the visit!

I know you've heard the news that shocked the world. I guess I don't have to repeat what's been lingering on the Internet, televisions and other mass media. I was actually in the midst of preparing Joe for school when I heard the news on BBC. It was about 6am, Malaysian time. At that time, BBC couldn't confirm the news yet but did stated that TMZ (a well-informed celeb web) has already confirmed the tragic news.

Many people were unsure of what had happened until radio stations nations all around the world started playing MJ's songs one after another, which caught some suspicious minds. No doubt it was a grieving and sadden moment but fans believe that the only way to commemorate him is to play and dance to his songs.

I've gathered some information about MJ's ins and outs' that I want to share. Some are his best memories and some are ours to keep and hold on.

  • People stood in line at 1AM to purchase "Thriller" when it came out, even though the store didn't open until 9 AM.
  • Michael has 30 CD releases over the course of his lifetime, including his time with the Jackson 5.
  • He used to date Brooke Shields back in the days when she was a supermodel.
  • The rock guitar solo for Jackson's hit song "Beat It", was provided by Eddie Van Halen.
  • Michael's "Billie Jean" was the first video by a black artist to air on MTV.
  • Michael was an occasional video game contributor including the excellent 'Michael Jackson's Moonwalker' which was developed by Sega.
  • Michael wears his trademark black armband to remind fans of the suffering of children around the world.
  • Michael was a vegetarian.
  • 43 artists were involved in putting together the charity song "We Are The World" which Jackson co-wrote together with Lionel Ritchie.
  • Macauley Culkin is godfather to Jackson's 2 eldest children, Paris and Prince Michael. He also helped Jackson designed his Neverland Ranch.
  • Michael provided a voiceover on The Simpsons - but it remained a secret for 12 years. He voiced a character in a mental institution in the Stark Raving Dad episode, which aired in 1991.
  • "BEN" was one of Michael's favourite song, and it was his first #1 hit as a solo artist.

Below is a video of a young soulful Michael rendering "BEN".. enjoy!

Because of the media scrambling to get the upmost news on the death of MJ, his death has definitely outshined everyone's favourite angel, Farrah Fawcett which passed away in the morning on the very same day as 'The King of Pop" (within 4 hours of each other).

What is there to know about Farrah Fawcett:

  • Fawcett was diagnosed with anal cancer in 2006.
  • Fawcett documented her last days with the help of a friend.
  • In early June, Ryan O'Neal of Bones, 68 (Fawcett's partner since 1982) asked Fawcett to marry him which she accepted but due to Fawcett's poor health, the two never walk the aisle.
  • She claimed to fame with her fabulous all-time bestselling swimsuit poster.

Following the deaths of the 2 American icons above, Ed McMahon also passed away on Tuesday the 23rd June, due to many health problems he had suffered over the months. I don't really know who is Ed McMahon but I know he is one of the most successful TV personalities. It's a tragic to lose 3 amazing Hollywood notables in just one week.

What you don't know about Ed McMahon:

  • Ed McMahon served in WWII as a fighter pilot for the US Marine Corps (6 Air Medals) which later discharged and sent to Korea and remained as a Reserve, retiring at 1966 with the rank of Colonel.
  • Ed McMahon was more famous as a sidekick for Jonny Carson's "The Tonight Show".
  • Ed McMahon appeared as himself in Bewitched, Baywatch, The Simpsons, Scrubs, Las Vegas, The Family Guy, Higglytown Heroes, etc.
  • In 2008, Ed McMahon had financial issues (sued by Citibank, attorney lawsuit, mortgage loans) which resulted in the closure of his multimillion-dollar home.
  • Real estate mogul, Donald Trump purchased Ed McMahon's home and lease it back to McMahon, so the home would not be foreclosed.
  • Ed McMahon died at the same hospital as Michael Jackson which is the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in LA, California.
