Nasi Beriani + Apple Crumble Pie

We had yummylicious food yesterday. We had 'Nasi Beriani' for dinner and 'Apple Crumble Pie' for dessert. We ate dinner without any utensils as it's finger licking good. I didn't licked my fingers though; Jake did.. Hehe! Maybe I did a little...can't remember

Rice aplenty : Raisins, cashew nuts, spices, tomatoes, carrot, etc.

Rice with pickled vegetables

Chicken buried in rice

Empty plate means delicious reached its' peak!

Mom finished making the pie at 6.45pm. It took about 40-45 minutes to reached golden brown. So, it was the right timing. After we had the plentiful spice rice accompanied by curry chicken, we waited for the pie to cool a bit before we monstrously gobbled it down. Oh, and it's topped with 2 scoops of vanilla ice-cream per triangle-cut. Gosh something like the restaurant would serve us, wouldn't ya think?

Mom used rolled oats on the crumble! So yummy that I can just eat the top off!

Mom cutting the pie... it's very very hot!

TADA!

All About Sneakers

I was searching through some websites to see which are interesting so that I can update my favorite sites. I found this site which caught my attention which shows all kinds of sports shoes and sneakers which are pretty eye-catching. Sorry that they are not the high-fashion heels that I should be talking about but these shoes are in fashion now. Go for comfy and sporty look while you can. Some sport shoes aren't necessarily designed for the extreme, in fact some are quite fashionable.

*************
I particularly like this design, the Nike Air Wildwood Premium

picture borrowed from MyAirShoes.com

Some say it looks old fashioned but I like to think of it as classic. I love the woven part. I love the fact that it's lightweight and it's simple and elegant. Not too fancy for me BUT... it's for men's. Sobs.. how disappointing.

**************
The LIVESTRONG x Nike Lunar Everyday isn't so bad either. I know Cc would love this pair because of its color. The color contrast is there. Its color is very appetizing. Haha.

I won't say other designs are ugly too. Different people have different taste. So... I went and search for women's designs. I kinda like Puma too. Like the fact that the ankles are low and they're flat at the sole. Like a ballerina shoe. My dream of becoming a ballerina failed so, I'm realizing my dream in wearing ballerina-like shoes. Gosh pitiful of me!

Easter @ Home

 eggs

First of all, Happy Easter everyone!!!

Easter Day was great! Very simple and homey. The kids even made their very own Easter eggs. Each of them were given 2 eggs but I add in extra touch to their boring eggs, I’m so bad! Anyway some got cracked during the process of designing so I was merely covering up the proof.

IMG_3276IMG_3278

It almost rained the whole day so it was cooling and refreshing but not when the taps ran dry. It’s mind boggling when we are in the kitchen prepping food without the convenience of water. So hard to do washing and cleaning up. Mom was ‘aarrhing’,

“Of all days; but today”.

So.. Uncle Yan came with his bags of life or is it life of bags? He brought his kick-S equipment. Lights, poles, more poles, tripod, etc. He’s helping mom treating the food to some spa attention.

IMG_3305

And since he has the kick-S lights, so must well everyone grab their cameras and start clicking away. Share the lights.

We invited Uncle Richard too since he was home alone. :(

Too bad I couldn’t get him to come as The Easter Bunny!

We had glorious food. It was mouth-watering, sensational, tantalizing and pretty arousing kinda flavours. I think the size of my stomach expanded an inch more… Lol!

I call the dish on the left Shroom Clam Salad; it has fresh button mushrooms, enogi, Portobello mushrooms and clams. And on the right is lemon garlic potatoes.

(yup the black beer, that Guinness)

Complimentary of Uncle Richard, his famous ‘Assam cili padi’ fish and he ate his own ‘cili padi’ thrice during dinner, bless him!

IMG_3314

Tiramisu for dessert made by my sister. Everyone had double servings as it was a little bit exciting because of the Baileys at the bottom. Kinda’ like a pick me up or maybe BOOM for some people.

Lovely Miss Joanne also got to savour Mom’s Recipe. She licked her plate and bowl squeaky clean! Eer.. what’s with the winking? I think she had too much of Baileys!

THE END!

The Return of Tomb Sweeping

…. that’s what Hub told me. I always thought it’s called ‘Qing Ming’ in English too. I googled… and I found out that it’s also called, ‘Clear and Bright Festival’. It’s a festival to remember and honour ancestors at grave sites or maybe I should put it as tombs as it sounds much more historic. Lol.. anyway, we went down to Malacca (my hometown-oh how I missed you) to the ‘YONG’ tomb site. All the ‘YONGs’ are and were there. We visit Jake’s grandfather (FIL’s Dad) every year without fail except for the certain years that I was expecting.

So, we left very early at about 5.45am.. we arrived at about 7am using the Ayer Keroh exit. The ‘YONG’ cemetery is located behind Jaya Jusco. Right after you pass JJ on your right, at the traffic light, take right. Oh.. why am I telling you the directions.. silly me.

We’re reached the Ayer Keroh toll

Relatives from Malacca and Singapore came too. One big family spring reunion. We started off with the sweeping of the grave’.. it means sweep-la; sweep clean, then.. lucky young ones repaint the Chinese characters written on the tomb. When all is clean and done, offerings in form of food, tea, flowers, etc are given.

(this is how it works… take two 20 cents, ask permission, shake, shake, shake then throw.. if both are heads/tails; means he isn’t finish eating.. if one is head and the other is tails; it means he is done chowing, full + with big tummy!)

Before we leave, we took a family picture. Though not everyone could make it, it was a great day. This time, we arrived early, did everything breezily and braved the oven-baking sun without much hassle.
